Know the origins of Baduy tribe and their history

The Baduy tribe is a tribe in the Banten region which has two groups called the inner Baduy Tribe and the outer Baduy tribe. The most fundamental difference between the two tribes is in carrying out the senility or customary rules when the implementation takes place.

In the inner Baduy tribe, they still hold the customary firmly. The inner Baduy tribe is also a tribe that always runs customary rules very well. But not vice versa with outside Baduy tribe.

Outside Baduy people receive guests from outside Indonesia and they are also allowed to visit until they stay in one of the tribal houses. Their aim to come to the outer baduy is not actually to learn about the culture of Baduy people and know what the life of the Baduy tribe is.

The Kanekes or Baduy people according to their religious beliefs are the descendants of Batara Cikal which is one of the seven gods or Batara sent to the Earth. These origins are often also related – relate or interlinked – connect with the Prophet Adam as the first human ancestor.

Adam and his descendants, including the citizens of Kanekes had a duty to do ascetic or mandita and to commit to maintain the harmony of the world. As for this, historians base the opinion that is possessed by a synthetic way of some historical evidence in the form of travel records of Portuguese and Chinese sailors as well as inscriptions and folklore about the Sundanese Tatar. It’s just that it has a fairly minimal presence figure.

The people of Kanekes were associated with the Sunda kingdom before its fall in the 16th century based in Pakuan Padjajaran or around the Bogor area. According to a widely circulated story, before the Banten Sultanate stood, the western tip of Java Island was actually an important part of the Sunda kingdom.

At that time, Banten was a fairly large trading port. Ciujung River can be crossed with various types of boats and is very crowded to transport various results from inland areas. The ruler of the area was the Prince of General Pucuk which gave the assumption that the river sustainability is also worth to be preserved.

It was therefore ordered by a team of government troops who were trained to maintain and manage dense and hilly forest areas in the area of Mount Kendeng.

The existence of the troops seemed to be a forerunner of the Baduy community. Until now, Baduy people still inhabited the upstream area of Ciujung River in this part of Mount Kendeng.

In fact there is an outstanding dissent that leads to an allegation that in the past, their identities and history were deliberately closed. The goal is to help protect its own Baduy community from enemy attacks in Padjajaran.

Other theories say that the history of Baduy was started when Raden Kian Santang who was the son of Prabu Siliwangi came home from Saudi Arabia after they embraced Islam in the hands of Sayalina Ali.

The son wanted to make the Prabu and his followers also embraced the same religion as himself. The Islamic religion that has been introduced in Saudi Arabia by Sayaraina Ali.

At the end of the story, with the Siliwangi Wangsit received by the Prabu, they found it objected to enter Islam. Because of his doubts, the Prabu held his belief firmly and spread to the corners of Sunda about his indime.

Prabu Siliwangi was pursued until the area of Lebak which is now the place of the Baduy tribe. The King Siliwangi did hiding there and until abandoned his followers. Later, the Prabu in Baduy area was renamed with the new title Prabu Kencana Wungu.

In the area of Baduy, Prabu Siliwangi changed the throne with as many as 40 loyal followers to the died in Ciagic, inner Baduy, Kanekes village. Up to now, the loyal follower of Prabu Siliwangi occupies the area of Kanekes village and is known as Baduy tribe.

That is the origins of Baduy and its history that we must recognize. Although the information from the history of the Baduy tribe is still very minimal, but hopefully the explanation above helps to give understanding. Hopefully the information above becomes information that adds to our historical knowledge.
